The Data Protection Act, 2024 (Act No. 18 of 2024) is Botswana’s primary law governing the collection, processing, storage, and transfer of personal data. It replaced the earlier Data Protection Act, 2018 and came into force on 14 January 2025. The Act aims to protect individuals’ privacy rights while regulating how organizations and government bodies handle personal information.
